Modelling by Jess Mann
In the last couple of weeks, I’ve been feeling pretty stiff with my photography (and that MAY have something to do with shooting the same sort of landscapes *cough*), so I’ve decided that I really need to switch it up. So, this is probably going to be the last photo like this one for awhile.
I never intended for this photograph to turn out like this – but, I never really intended this photograph to happen in the first place. Last week, Jess and I set out to go take the photograph Chasing Whimsy, and as we were walking, I noticed this gigantic tree branch. I’ve always wanted to experiment with turning branches into limbs, I think that it’s incredibly cool. So, in true Jen-fashion, after standing and deliberating for awhile, I decided to haul the thing along with us.
In post, I decided to take this in a much different editing style just to shake things up a bit. It’s not a complete dust off from what I’ve been doing, but enough to make me not want to jump out of my skin. So, the next picture I’m posting (that I’m REALLY excited about) is going to be very different. I feel like it’s going back to my roots a bit. And that makes me really happy.
In other news, I have my (still broken) 50mm lens back… so what better to do with that lens then to start another series! I’m still going to continue working on “Downgraded“, but I think working on both will be a great challenge and great fun.
I’ve worn glasses since 5th grade and I am really, terribly nearsighted. I can’t see clearly past about 10 inches in front of me (and that’s being generous). I’ve often described being nearsighted as seeing the world through a low aperture, except after so far you can’t focus anymore. So, now that my lens suffers from the same “affliction”, albeit better than my own eyes, I decided to start my “Nearsighted” series. It’s going to be SO much fun.
I’d love to hear what sort of challenges you’re setting for yourself this summer – are you taking a trip, achieving a goal, starting a series like me – how are you challenging yourself?
Have a great week!
(On a side note, a shout out to a tumblr blog called Cray Magazine for featuring me recently!)
