For most of my life, I lived in small towns. I don’t miss a whole lot about it, for various reasons. But since I was 18 I’ve lived in the city, and the city is always alive.
If there’s one thing I miss about living in a small town, it’s the night. Where you could walk the streets, and there was a chance you wouldn’t run into another soul, or a passing vehicle. You could walk right out of town, find a good spot, and watch the stars in complete silence. You could press pause in that moment, and let everything you feel just sink into the earth and away from that moment.
Silence can be an exhilarating experience, and sometimes peace is chaotic. Tonight, I crave the quiet.
Amen. Silence throws away our crutches and masks and lets us breathe.
